Pareto Producer  /  Beta Cohort 01

The musician you are.
The music you haven't made yet.

The Pareto Producer removes the friction between them. A 12-week course and creative community for lifelong musicians who are finally ready to finish their music — and find their people while they do it. It begins and ends with a moment we call the Day 1 Demo — and once you understand what that is, you will want to be part of it.

CREATION = DESIRE FRICTION

Founding Rebel (early bird) price  ·  Limited places available

Why musicians stop finishing music

You do not have a talent problem.
You have a friction problem.

A thousand small, relentless demands that eat your day alive — leaving you knackered by evening, full of music you never got to make. That is not a discipline failure. That is friction. And once you can name it, you can remove it.

Life Friction

A thousand small throwaway demands devour hours every day. You end the evening knackered — but without having done half the things you wanted to. Including making music.

🔁

The Tutorial Loop

Every unfinished track leads to another tutorial. Every tutorial leads to another piece of gear. None of it leads to finished music.

📂

The Unfinished Drive

A hard drive full of promising ideas that never made it past the first verse. Not because the songs were bad. Because something always got in the way.

🔴

Red Light Fever

Everything sounds fine until you press record. Then something shifts. The performance that was there in rehearsal disappears the moment it matters.

Friction is the enemy. Not your talent, not your gear, not your age. The musicians who finish music have simply removed what was in the way — and that is exactly what we do here.

What Pareto Producer is

The 20% of skills that create
80% of finished music.

Pareto Producer is not a course about everything. It is a framework for identifying and mastering the small number of things that actually move the needle — plus a community that keeps you moving when life tries to stop you.

01
Friction Reduction Lower the threshold between inspiration and record until starting a session requires less effort than avoiding it.
02
Pareto Creation Identify the 20% of your skills and tools that produce 80% of your results. Stop investing time in everything else.
03
Your Dreams, Not Just Your Goals We don't set goals here — we set dreams. The version of you that made it: what did they go on to do? That answer shapes everything — your route map, your groups, your reason to keep going when life tries to stop you.
04
Finish Frameworks Simple systems that take a song from idea to done — without the paralysis of wondering whether it is good enough yet.
05
Your Creative Tribe You will be matched into a small group of three based on your instruments, your music, and your goals. They will be expecting to hear from you. That expectation — warm, mutual, chosen — is more powerful than any reminder email.
  • A gear review course
  • A tutorial on every plugin
  • A beginner DAW walkthrough
  • An advanced mastering course
  • A music theory deep-dive
  • Another thing to add to your to-do list
  • Matched into a group of three
  • Unlocking milestones together
  • A band, not a classroom
12-week programme outline

What we cover, week by week.

Week 0
The Day 1 Demo Before the course begins, you record one musical idea in one session with whatever you have. No fixing. Sealed until Week 12. This is the first half of the most powerful moment in the whole course.
Weeks 1–3
Phase 1 — The Reckoning Name the real enemy. Map your friction — in your life and in your workflow. Change how you hear your own music through the 80/20 lens. The first act of creative trust with the Rebel Circle.
Week 4
Free Week — Make Something No content. No assignments. Just: go make something with what you now know. The course steps back and lets you discover whether any of it has taken root. It almost always has.
Weeks 5–8
Phase 2 — The Rewiring Build the one-click studio. Install the recording instinct. Learn the Mix Trinity — EQ, compression, reverb — the 20% that does 80% of the work. Map your psychology and build a creative process that fits your actual life.
Week 9
Free Week — Run the Machine The machine is built. Now find out if it runs without supervision. Students who create something independently this week arrive at Phase 3 already knowing the answer to the course's central question.
Weeks 10–12
Phase 3 — The Release Build habits that outlast the course. Stop tweaking, start finishing. Get one or more tracks across the line. Then — in the final session — listen to your Day 1 Demo alongside your finished track. That moment is the product.
12 weeks. But only 10 weeks of content — because making music matters more than consuming lessons. The two Free Weeks are not gaps. They are where you discover whether the system works when no one is watching. It does.
The community

A band, not a classroom.

The Rebel Circle is not a Facebook group where questions disappear into the noise. It is a structured creative community — and the most important part of how this course actually works.

🎯

Matched Into a Group of Three

Before Week 1 begins you fill in a short questionnaire — instruments, genre, where you are right now. I match you into a group of three based on what you bring and what you need. Complementary skills, shared goals, real creative chemistry.

🌙

Dream Setting, Not Goal Setting

Goal setting sounds like a performance review. In Week 1 we ask a different question: the version of you that made it — what did they go on to do? That answer shapes everything that follows.

🏆

The Rebel Milestones

Seven achievements your group unlocks together — not individually. First Blood, The Dream Map, The Machine Runs, The Finish Line. Collaborative rather than competitive. The group wins together or not at all.

🎙️

Voice Notes, Not Typed Feedback

When your group responds to your rough take, they send a voice note — not a written comment. Voice notes sound like a person talking, because they are. That is what real feedback feels like.

You will be matched into a group of three. They will be expecting to hear from you. That expectation — warm, mutual, chosen — is more powerful than any reminder email we could send.

Who is teaching this
Mark Parkins at the studio desk, Psyrex Nottingham
Mark Parkins
The Quiet Rebel  ·  Psyrex Recording Studio, Nottingham

I opened Psyrex in 1999. In the 25 years since, I have recorded thousands of artists — from bands arriving with a half-formed idea and leaving the same day with a finished track, to solo musicians who had been stuck on the same song for years. From classical to hip hop to extreme metal, and everything in between.

What I kept noticing was the same pattern, over and over. The musicians who finished music were not more talented. They were not better equipped. They had simply removed the friction that was stopping them from starting.

Pareto Producer is the framework I wish I had been able to hand people 20 years ago. It took that long to distil it properly — and to understand that the enemy was never talent. It was always friction.

The Quiet Rebel is my attempt to share what the studio actually taught me — without the fluff, the gear obsession, or the hustle culture that surrounds most music education.

Questions

Things people usually ask.

Pareto Producer is designed for musicians who have some home recording experience — you know what a DAW is, you have recorded something before — but who are not consistently finishing music. If you are a complete beginner or a professional studio engineer, this is probably not the right fit.
The principles are DAW-agnostic. I primarily use Studio One and Audition, but I have used others and everything taught applies equally to Ableton, Cubase, GarageBand, or any other major DAW. You will not be left behind because of your software choice.
It means the core framework exists and has been tested, but the exact shape of certain modules will be informed by what the first group needs. You get more direct access and a lower price than future cohorts. In return, your honest feedback helps build something better for everyone who comes after you.
The programme is designed for people with real lives. Plan for roughly 2–3 hours per week during content weeks — modules, a live Q&A session every two weeks, and time to actually apply what you are learning. Two of the twelve weeks have no content at all — they exist purely for you to create. If a week is difficult, nothing is lost — you have lifetime access to the materials.
I’m only looking for 21 people because I want to be in the trenches with you. If you show up, engage with the process, and after the first two weeks you feel this isn't the right fit for your creative life—just tell me. I’ll give you a full refund, no questions asked, and no awkward conversations. My goal is to help you find your voice; if this isn't the way you do that, I’d rather you had your money back to find the thing that does. We stay rebels, no hard feelings.
Before the course officially begins, every student records one musical idea in one session using whatever they have. No fixing allowed afterwards. It gets sealed — and you won't hear it again until Week 12, when you listen to it alongside your finished track. The difference between those two recordings is not just about music quality. It is about how each one felt to make. That contrast is the most powerful moment in the whole course.
Weeks 4 and 9 are deliberately empty — no content, no assignments, no videos. The only instruction is to go and make something. Most courses fail because students never get space to actually use what they are learning. The Free Weeks are where the course proves itself. Students who create something independently during those weeks arrive at the next phase differently. They arrive as creators, not students.
